  • origanal romany tribe names? Thank you Sandy pennar,
Pity I don't know much of the Beards before NZ , they changed the spelling to Baird sometime back here.
My mum's family was a large extended one , my mum had Ten brothers & sisters, when I was very young I remember meeting my Great grandparents , I couldn't understand their accent it was so broad,
The family say they were musians & traveling Barbers ? thats all I know of them before coming here. Yes I'm aware of YetHolm being a Rom inclave . very very early Rom presence in the UK.
I Still feel that Romani came too the UK in different waves over afew hundred years and believe their were of Different tribes , or rather came diffent routes from the mystercal homeland ? where ever that was , must have been India and Old Persia. due to Language links and customs.
    Bokt Bob.

  • ELISHA LEE, DUKE LEE, DAVID AND SOPHIA LEE Hi, with regards to the countless blogs I keep reading online about Elisha Lee, Duke Lee and David and Sophia Lee, to whom I am related I'm having trouble pinning down factual evidence on the relationship between the three. As far as I'm aware there is no evidence at all (like a baptism) to suggest David Lee was the son of Elisha. Also with reference to the baptism of Elisha Lee in 1737 at Boxley, I have have looked at the original register and it clearly states, Excellent Lee, daughter of Elisha and Selles Lee.

I can understand if the names Excellent and Elisha were muddled but the entry of which is clear and can not be confused with another states daughter, so unless Excellent had a full house of fully functioning genitals I don't see how she / he could father anyone, let alone David.

As for Duke Lee who was hanged in 1766, I have searched for a burial in the Maidstone district without success. I am assured by staff at the archive centre that even those who were hanged were buried, so has anyone got any tips on where this may be?

  • Daily Mail today If this is the way that Gypsy/ travellers go about building illegal sites like this, there will always be problem legally or otherwise
There is NOT one law for them and another for people who live in houses or it makes a mockery of the laws of this land which we all must obey..
They have no more human rights than anyone else who is BORN here in England ,they should apply for planning permission like everyone else and go through the system just like everyone else.
If this bloke had enough money to buy this land maybe he should have kept a few pounds to hire a good lawyer to get him planning permission a year ago before he took advantage of a loop hole in the law or maybe better idea why not get the lawyer to fight his wife for the property he says she forced him and his family off?

"The father-of-five claimed he, his mother, brothers and cousins had been forced to find a new site after he separated from his wife and was driven off his old camp by her family. "

I suggest too you look at the latest article about this and note what comments he has made
This one is really stupid how does he think this will help ? only annoy those who have lost their sons in a War none of us really want: comparing himself to the most hated man in the world

"And yesterday the gipsies' leader Noah Burton, by now acutely aware of how unpopular his arrival has been, told the Daily Mail: 'I'm the Bin Laden of Meriden.'

    Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1271529/Why-wont-ground-Bin-Laden-Meriden-Villagers-step-fight-halt-new-gipsy-camp.html#ixzz0mzlMkJmF

If after all this you still believe what they are doing is right then I wonder if you will go and stand with them in support when the authorities go in to make them move ?
Because if you feel as part of the Romany race this is your people then you should stand with them

It does make me wonder why some of the Rais left their privaye musings and notes ( Not the serious works) to the archives warts and all ? as they must have known that, they would at some stage be seen by the general public?.

ROMANY GYPSIES KING DIES WEALTHY AT 85
    MORRISTOWN NEW JERSEY 3rd JULY
NAYLOR HARRISON 85 king of the Romany Gypsies is dead.
He died of old age in his tent here Monday, he had hardly breathed his last when Tribal funeral ceremonies began with the burning of the personal effects. A call for a gathering of the tribes has come froth and interment will be delayed until they arrived.
Reputed to be a millionaire who laid the foundation of his wealth with money made in trading horses, Harrison owns real estate in all sections of the United States, he was recently reported to have sold some land in St Louis for $ 80.000
The grove in which he and his relatives camped here as been his own property for many years, he pitched his tent there off and on for fifty years and when his wanderings ended four years ago the King established a permanent camp at this spot.
His only failure to win the respectful attention of his people against the automobile, he never bought one or used one, his people who used to travel the roads in covered wagons with strings of horses following have taken to the motor car and now speed over the roads making rail-road train time.
About 30yrs ago a Gypsy was slain on Belle street in Alton believed to be a son of the old man, when the man was slain in a gypsy camp there was a great mystery about it. The report was circulated that the dead man was of Gypsy royal blood and the man's name was Harrison, an Alton negro wasa arrested and convicted of the killing but the evidence was not conclusive.

I have somewhere got a article aboutI think this murder and the name was Samuel/Samson Cooper ? was he using his mother's surname ?

  • In Regard to Romresearch site's statement. Hi Ann65, Its not that easy to just let go, because its my name that is in this article, and it is lies.
For the owner of another site to take my posts, then put them on a link on his site to be ridiculed and
laughed at. He should stick to his own site. Bokt William.
    This is the offending piece.
There are other sites, such as gypsyjib.wetpaint.com/ [see the subject-heading at the top left-hand column on this page], where a couple of its members are attempting to cause trouble not only for the Jib site but for every other available site and the administrators consistently fail to keep them within reasonable, respectable and legal limits. If you want to be entertained take a look at the contributions of 'kaulocamlo' and 'herringlee' who make a habit of abusing anyone who says anything worthwhile about the subject and who are sucking others into their disreputable enterprise.

  • Price family. I found this info on Ancestry.co.uk ..........

If you go to this web site you can order certificates
    http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

It does not matter where you live either in UK or aboard as its all done online if you decide to do it let me know I will get you the Ref no for the marriages as this makes it easier for them to find correct ones
I have put the early one on here 1910 marriage :
I can message you the one for your grandparents 1931 if you want to go ahead

Regards information as in records we can only find it before 1901 in Census so anyone born after that will not be found via ancestry unless on a public tree which means someone has already researched and put information on ancestry and after 1901.. I have looked but see nothing in regards your family sorry

The latest one allowed for public viewing is 1911 which is expensive to view and I think only available on findmypast.com
I am afraid. unless as I see you can find others like Vince linked to family who can help fill in about your family I can only help if you know your Grt Grandparents etc then I can help trace back down the line hopefully
I would suggest if you are able to get the marriage certificate as this will give you his father I am happy then to do any looks ups for you

  • MY GRANDMOTHER MARY LEE
    "Hello Lees

I guess I am related to all of you, I have only discovered this lineage so I thought I would share it with you:

    Elisha 'Rightdoer' Lee b. 1710 Brede Sussex – d. 1766 Maidstone? married Phylliss b. 1713 GGGGGGG

Duke Lee b. 1734 Maidstone – d. 1766 Maidstone (Hung for horse theft at Penenden Heath) GGGGGG - Henrietta

Solomon was one year old when his father was executed, Duke was hung with a fellow conspirator Richard Ingram, take a look at the court log:

    "
    Hello there Adrian,

It certainly does seem that half of us could be related to each other in some way or another although I'd hate to try and pin down what the official term for it could be.... something like 2nd cousins 37 times removed? !!

That was an interesting link you provided.

I note though that you wrote that the Elisha born in 1710 was called Right Doer whereas I (and others, I believe) have his son born in 1737, also Elisha, known by that nick name. Elisha Snr had a son called Duke so in actual fact 'Right-Doer' was Duke's brother, not his father. The link says that the person executed was called Duke Jnr, so now I'm wondering who was Duke Snr!

Perhaps someone has some views on this.

And I think I've probably high-jacked enough of Juna's thread on her Grandmother so perhaps one of the mods might be willing to move the relevant posts elsewhere so this thread can go back to its original theme.
