THE QUEEN OF GYPSIES
A large number of young person gathered at the Gypsy encampment on Old Cove road just beyond Kings to attend the cornation of the king & queen who recently came from England to be the leaders of the tribe of wanders that every year spread their tents on Long island.
There were only 2 families in camp near Brooklyn ,but 40 wagons are expected from Jamaica
Hempstead & Flushing and New Jersey
Uriah Wharton a half breed has been king of the tribe for many years ,but a short time ago he left with his family to go it alone,he is nearly 70 and been here 25 years
The husbands of the families the Boswells & Sparrows were off horsetrading
Mrs Sparrow was in the city fortune telling -Mrs Boswell was here incharge of the children
The king & queen did not come and many were disappointed
The matron of the band said ; If you thought there would be grand sights you are mistaken we come together select our leaders then move off.
