Our Forgotten Years
A Gypsy woman’s life on the road by Maggie Smith – Bendell.
This is one that I could not put down till it was finished! It contained references and photos of members of my wife Annie’s extended family. There are many up’s and downs in its 240 pages as it describes the day to day living of her family, The shock of reading that during the War years, Horses and men were taken for military service and the Vardo’s and family left by the road side! The very sad deaths of family members, working in the Pea Fields of Somerset and in the Hop Gardens of Herefordshire, Maggie’s determination to create a home for her and her husband, and her campaign for Gypsy rights.
