England & Wales Criminal Registers 1791-1892This is a featured page

I thought I would do this page as an aid to those maybe not finding some of their family via census or records.
We all know people are not perfect and many Gypsies were accused of crimes just for being a Gypsy........
Most were convicted as the Gorga too, of Larceny.............
which is old name for stealing another's property
This is not to show them in a negative light ,but as part of searching for family members its another avenue of research .which may lso explain where they were if not found on census records etc

looking at Anne65's criminal register data, what struck me, was the amount of Gypsy cases that ended up wth an aquittal or not guilty verdict.
I for one am, am very quick to point out the inadequacies of British justice, particularly in centuries past.

The data provided by Anne, would seem to show that being a Gypsy did not ( always) stand in the way of a fair trial.
Do you find this valuable?
